Motion Analysis

Background:

By identifying corresponding objects or patterns in successive frames from image sequences, estimates of the inter-reframe motion to be made. Template matching is commonly used in video coding but has difficulty coping with the non-rigid motion, low contrast and high noise found in remotely sensed images of objects such as clouds and glaciers. However, when combined with a smoothness criterion such as that provided by relaxation labelling, the candidates vectors from template matching can be used to produce a locally consistent field. Filters for motion field analysis and motion estimation for video coding are other area of work.
