Group: DESIGN EDUCATION
*** The DESIG is a partner in the organisation of the Engineering and Produce Design Education Conferences. A very successful conference was held in Barcelona in 2008 (see Conference web site), and this year's meeting will be held at the University of Brighton, UK on 10 and 11 September 2009***
Introduction
The Design Education Special Interest Group (DESIG) of the
Design Society
has been formed to bring together academics, designers, training professionals
and others throughout the world who have an interest in design education at
the tertiary level. DESIG will focus on sharing information and experience
on design education through biannual conferences and workshops, collaboration
and promoting workgroups and a design education resource web-site.
The DESIG has been formed from the Sharing Experience in Engineering Design
(SEED) organisation, founded in the United Kingdom some twenty years ago with
the aim of fostering the exchange of enperience in design education.
A Management Board and Advisory Panel for the DESIG (see below) has been formed. If you would like to contribute to the organisation

Organisational Structure
The organisational structure of DESIG is as follows:
Management Board:
- Seven elected members.
- Responsible for the organisation and day to day running of all DESIG
activities.
- Chair will be invited onto the Design Society advisory board.
- A representative from the Design Society management board will be
an ex-officio member.
- Elected by affiliates every two years
- Initially, the management board will be formed by SEED Executive plus
two invited international members.
Advisory Panel
- 20 – 25 members.
- Aim to have balance of membership in terms of country and discipline.
- Will advise on the nature and direction of DESIG activities.
- Will include working party chairs and representatives from national
organisations.
- Initially formed by invitation from the management board.
- Period of membership - two years, working party chairs and national
organisation representatives co-opted.
