The book series
TCP/IP Illustrated, by the late W. Richard Stevens,
is a classic of the TCP/IP literature. Volume I is the keystone,
describing and illustrating the TCP/IP protocols in
action. Nevertheless, it is beginning to be
dated in a few places, and it is somewhat Americano-centric. These notes
try to update this excellent book. Actual corrections of errors, rather than
updates or comments, are given in
italics. References into the book
are generally given in terms of pages (``p.'') and lines (``l.'').
References beginning III are to Volume III.
I am grateful to my friend Mr. I.W.J. Sparry for many comments and
corrections, as well as the many explanations he has given me over the years.
