In our laboratory we have the facilities for preparing and characterising a wide range of liquid and amorphous materials. Our instrumentation includes a novel X-ray diffractometer system which enables rapid data acquisition and hence real-time studies of, for instance, the phase transitions that occur when a system is heated. The thermal characteristics of the materials are measured using a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) system.
We also make extensive use of instruments at several internationally recognised centres for condensed matter. These centres for neutron scattering and x-ray synchrotron radiation enable us to make scattering experiments that give us unique insight into both the structure and dynamics of the materials investigated.
